    This study was directed to obtain the glomerular filtration rate in normal Korean and various renal diseases, by the method of the endogenous creatinine clearance 18 healthy normal Koreans were sampled among residents and laboratory technician in Seoul National University Hospital. Samples of disease group were collected from 139 cases of various renal and its related diseases.
    The results were as follow:
    1) The serum creatinine concentration in normal group is ranged from 0.46 mg
    to 1.655 mg/100m1 with an average of 0. 85 mg/100ml ±0.29.
    2) The24 hour urinary creatinine excretion per Kg. of body weight is 24.1 mg±
    4.76 in an average value with a range of 18.0 to 34.0mg in normal group.
    3) The endogenous creatinine clearance of healthy Korean lies between 85 and
    146m1/min. /1.73M2 with an average of 121ml/min./1.73M2 ±16.
    4) When the serum creatinine concentration is above 1.5mg/100m1, glomerular
    filtration rate by the method of the endogenous creatinine clearance is found to
    be below 60m1 /min. /1.73M2 in the present study.
    By plotting the serum creatinine concentration against the 24 hour creatinine clearance values a typical form of hyperbolic distribution curve is obtained.
    In the important transitional zone between upper normal and pathological values, small changes in the serum creatinine concentration are associated with relatively great changes in the clearances and the serum creatinine concentration lies even within normal range in spite of decreased glomerular filtration rate in a number of cases.
    Therefore the endogenous creatinine clearance is preferable to the serum creatinine concentration for an estimation of glomerular filtration rate.
