고전기 아티카의 도기화 속 결혼(식)장면과 에로스(Eros)의 이미지 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 고전기 아키타 도기화에서 재현된 결혼식 장면 속 에로스 도상의 의미를 신화 · 역사적 맥락에서 고찰하고자 한다. 기원전 5세기 아티카 도기화에서 재현된 결혼식 장면에서 에로스는 신부가 신랑에게 자신의 신체적, 내면적 아름다움과 매력을 호소해야하는 결혼식의 매 순간 신부와 동행하고 있어서 에로스와 결혼의 연관성은 효과적으로 강조된다. 그리고 결혼 장면 속에서 에로스의 이미지는 주로 여성들이 사용하는 도기(픽시스, 루트로포로스, 레베스 가미코스, 에피네트론 등)에 재현되어 에로스가 혼인관계의 근본이 된다는 결혼관을 설득력있게 전달한다. 에로스가 강조된 결혼 장면이 그려진 도기를 접하였던 고전기의 아테네 여성들은 성적으로 매력적인 존재이자 사랑받는 아내로, 건강한 출산이 가능한 어머니로서의 자신의 미래를 그릴 수 있었을 것이다. 이것은 기원전 5세기 전후 아테네 사회가 여성들에게 요구하였던 모습, 즉 남성 도기화가와 구매자들이 지녔던 여성상을 반영한 결과로 여길 만하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines the meaning of the Eros figure in the wedding scenes reproduced in the classical Attic pottery from a mythological and historical context. In the wedding scenes shown in 5th century BC Attic pottery, Eros accompanies the bride at every moment of the wedding, an occasion where the bride appeal of her physical and internal beauty to the groom. In this sense, the connection between Eros and the wedding is effectively emphasized. The image of Eros in wedding scenes is normally reproduced on pottery used by women (pyxis, loutrophoros, lebes gamikos, epinetron etc), persuasively projecting the view that Eros is the basis of marriage. Athenian women who were exposed to the pottery scenes of the wedding with an emphasis on Eros would have pictured themselves as attractive, beloved wives, and fertile mothers. This can be considered a reflection of what the Athenian society demanded of women around the 5th century BC - the notion of femininity projected by male potters and consumers.
