도시공동체로서 향우회 스포츠클럽활동과 정체성의 재구성 = Identity and the urban community of out-of-towners through sports club activities

This research aims to clarify how identity and community are formed by persons sharing a hometown and reunited through a big city sports club. Qualitative methodology was selected as the most appropriate study method. Research participants consisted of 10 people living in the Seoul metropolitan area and sharing the hometown in another province reunited in a football club. Data was collected from the participants through in-depth audio recorded interviews and observation. For the data analysis, the category of main subjects, attributes and dimensions have been discovered through the use domain analysis and taxonomic analysis of a continuous comparative method(Pattem, 1980) in qualitative methodology. The main categories of subjects, along with attributes and dimensions which were formed in the course of the data analysis, have been interpreted on the theoretical basis of a Symbolic Interactionism(Mead, 1934). There were two major findings of this study. First, the analysis of identity shows effects in three different identities. Aspects of personal identity revealed a pursuit an emotional bonding, sympathy, relationship establishment, interaction, participation and self-discovery. Social identity showed a transcendence of the generation gap between the participants, trust gain, further affinity to the hometown. Situational identity showed a creation of role models, a new social structure and a function of community. The second finding shows the reconstruction process of the urban community through the sports club activities. Steps of the reconstruction process involve interaction to find identity and role taking in the sports club and differentiation or integration with members of the community.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 도시공동체로서 향우회 스포츠클럽할동과 정체성의 재구성을 구명하는데 목적이 있었다. 연구참여자는 서울시 및 수도권에 거주하고 있는 K도 출신으로 구성된 향우회 소속 축구클럽회원 10명이었다. 자료의 수집은 관찰법과 심층 인터뷰를 통하여 이루어졌다. 자료분석은 질적연구에서 사용되는 귀납적 범주분석(Pattem, 1980)을 영역분석과 분류분석의 두 단계로 분석된다. 이러한 과정과 방법을 통하여 다음과 같이 요약되었다. 첫째, 향우회 스포츠클럽활동에서 나타난 범주화된 특징들은 상황 정체성, 사회 정체성, 사적 정체성의 세 가지 정체성으로 분류하였다. 사적 정체성은 정서적 공감대 찾기, 기존관계확인, 상호작용참여, 자아찾기 등이 하위범주로 나타났다. 사회적 정체성은 세대간 격차감소, 분화, 신뢰쌓기, 출신지역과의 연계 등의 특징들로 나타났다. 상황적 정체성은 주체적 역할, 사회구조의 생성, 지역문화의 생성과 향유 등의 특징들로 나타났다. 둘째, 향우회 스포츠 클럽활동과 정체성의 재구성의 국면들은 자아의 상호작용참여단계와 도시공동체로서 구조화단계로 나타났다. 자아의 상호작용 참여 단계에서는 정체성 찾기와 역할취득으로서 재구성되었다. 도시공동체로서 구조화단계에서는 집단분화와 통합과 도시공동체로서의 출현으로 재구성되었다.
