헝가리 민간신앙의 ＂taltos＂(딸또시) 연구 = A Study of ‘táltos’ in the Hungarian Folk Belief

The purpose of this paper is to investigate both the function and the role of 'táltos', which has super-natural power, which can be seen in the Hungarian folk belief, and to find the national characteristics and uniqueness, which has been reflected in it with the connection of the further study with regard to the folk belief and ethnic customs.
The study of 'táltos' deducted the fact that Shamanism in the region of Siberia was the basis of Hungarian ancient religion before Hungary accept Christianity AD 1000.
My efforts are also made to survey how Hungarian ancient religion based on Shamanism became a public folk belief in Hungary. The definition and characteristics of 'táltos' are also made by researching the differences among super-natural things in the Hungarian public folk belief such as "tudós pásztor/gulyás/kocsis", "halottlátó", "táltos", and "garabonciás", which are known to have the super-natural power.
My attention is payed to the fact that 'táltos' has to experience 'trance' of phantasm like being extricated from a soul and ecstasy to reach the condition of 'táltos', and the unique social role of 'táltos' is also considered.
Finally, I investigate the shamanic characteristics of 'táltos' in the Hungarian folk belief. I also present that this shamanic characteristics are probable enough but still not sufficient to reach the final conclusion.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 헝가리 민간신앙에 나타나는 초자연적 능력을 가진 존재인 “táltos”의 역할과 기능 그리고 기원을 조사하는 것이며, 앞으로 계속될 민간신앙 및 민속에 관련된 연구 작업과 결부하여 최종적으로는 그 속에 투영된 헝가리의 민족적 특성과 고유성을 찾아보는 목적을 갖고 있다. “táltos” 연구에 있어서 특히 중요한 위치를 차지하는 기독교 수용 이전의 헝가리 고대 신앙 -AD 10 세기 이전-에 관하여 그 성격과 특징을 조사하여, 시베리아 지역의 샤머니즘적 요소가 헝가리 고대 신앙의 근간을 이루어 있다는 점을 추론해냈다. 샤머니즘에 바탕을 둔 고대 신앙이 기독교 수용이후 어떠한 양상으로 변모하여 헝가리 민중의 일반적인 민간신앙으로 형성되었는지를 알아보는 데에도 연구노력을 기울였다. 일반적으로 헝가리 민간신앙에서 초자연적 능력을 가진 존재로 알려진 “tudós pásztor/gulyás/kocsis”, “halottlátó”, “táltos”, “garabonciás” 등의 존재를 모두 포함하여 각 존재들 간의 차이점을 찾아보아, “táltos”에 대한 정의와 성격을 밝히는 연구 작업을 행하였다. “táltos"는 탈혼망아의 몽환상태(: trance)와 신병(神病)및 신열(神悅) (: ecstasy) 과정을 반드시 거쳐 “táltos”로 될 수 있다는 특징에 특히 초점을 맞추어 조사를 진행하였으며, 그 밖에도 “táltos”의 결투로 대변되는 “táltos”의 독특한 사회적 역할에도 유념하였다. 이상의 연구 작업을 통하여 헝가리 민간신앙상의 “táltos”라는 존재의 샤머니즘적 성격을 밝혀보는 작업을 마지막으로 행하였다. 이 샤머니즘적 성격에 대하여는 그 개연성은 충분히 있으나 관련학계의 최종적 완전한 결론에 이르기에는 아직까지는 미흡하다는 점도 제시하였다.
