미래학교에서의 첨단매체 활용방안 = Use of advanced technology in future schools

The objectives of the study are to clarify the role of education in the future society, to identify appropriate strategy and method for future education and finally search for the way to use advanced technology to carry out the role and the strategy. In order to prepare and lead the future society, the first thing to do in education is to create and clarify the vision or image for future education. Traditionally, the role of education was rather passive in that it transmits existing knowledge to the new generation and nurture the cultural heritage. However, in future society, education should be able to lead social change and its evolution by providing vision and mechanism to change, and by evolving and changing together with the res t of society in harmony. Future society will bring many changes which require change in the paradigm in every aspect of society, including education. The educational paradigm shift should address the change of traditional role and relationship of students and teachers, and concept of education. In traditional school context, teachers were in control and main actors while students remain as passive receivers of educational content. This doesn``t allow much opportunities for student to grow as an independent thinker, problem solver, cooperative team worker and creative actor. Future paradigm shift focuses on student``s activerole, by controling and being responsible for his /her own learning while teachers play role of faciliator, motivator, advisor and manager of the learning environment. True paradigm shift should result in the transform of education from the teacher-centered, rote memory-based teaching to the student- centered, exploratory-based, problem solving and creative thinking focused participatory learning. In achieving this trans formation, and thus realizing the vision of future education, new advanced technology can play a meaningful role. In this study, advanced technology including computers is reviewed in relation to paradigm shift aspects. Especially, different ways of computer use to facilitate various new learning strategies such as discovery learning, indivisualized or cooperative learning, creative thinking, and discussion is reviewed. Future classroom should be more and more geared to multi- media environment, where students can experience and explore different aspects of life in reality or virtual reality. This type of advanced-technology mediated multi-media environment is usually problem and context-oriented. Teachers`` role is vital for the success of the new learning environment. They should be positive force to student``s learning and thus extend and upgrade it. In short, this sort of new learning environment is not analytical or step -by - step process but more of a wholistic and comprehensive ones. Educators should be able to lead the change by providing the blueprint vision about what the future education and/or schools should look like, they need to focus on creating this sort of future- oriented learning environment to achieve our vision. Without this leading force, there will be no change. With new vision and leadership the potential of the advanced technology can be realized in the shift of educational paradigm in future schools.
