The purpose of this study is to investigate blended learning-based lessons to select and incorporate "online media" that could be mixed and used in the field of teaching material-centric Korean education. Focusing on visual media especially and taking into consideration their characteristics, the study proposed methods to promote the learning effects and plans to put them to effective use in the classroom.
The study first set a couple of research goals and searched for its methods. The research goals were ① classifying and analyzing visual media, ② searching for the types of lessons that could make use of visual media, ③ selecting visual media to be used in lessons, and ④ proposing blended learning-based Korean education.
Trying to implement these research methods, Chapters 1 and 2 reviewed the advantages of visual media-based blended learning in foreign language education and lessons in previous studies and proposed research methods accordingly. Based on previous studies, the investigator examined the overall backgrounds of blended learning-based lessons in Korean education including the concept of blended learning and lessons based on visual media.
Chapter 3 analyzed the types and genres of visual media, dividing them into "broadcasting-based ones," "Internet-based ones," and "others." The first two categories were based on videos focused on education. The Internet-based visual media were especially examined for each medium. The last category of other visual media was examined by the genre.
Chapter 4 searched for blended learning-based plans for Korean education by using visual media based on the findings in previous chapters. After selecting lessons and visual media to be blended for overall lesson organization, the chapter organized a lesson in the pre-, during-, and post-lesson stages and proposed actual lessons plans based on them.
The ultimate goal of education is to help the learners understand the learning objectives. If learners are stimulated for their interest and motivated, their foreign language learning abilities will be improved further. The present study chose visual media-based blended learning as a plan to fulfill all of these. The findings of the study will hopefully lead to ongoing attempts at visual media-based blended learning in the field of education and contribute to the future study of educational plans.
