플라톤 체육의 정치성: 『국가』와『법률』 을 중심으로 = Political Implications of Gymnastic Education in Plato`s Republic and Laws

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It would seem that, to date, there has been minimal research regarding a logical explanation on the subjects in connection with both everyday life and the political life of the individuals. With this gap in the literature in mind, this paper aims to reveal the political implications of Plato`s gymnastic education, focusing on his two major works-Republic and Laws. This paper will address the communication and relationship between the private activities of the individuals and the public issues. In this paper, This paper will draw the following three political implications from gymnastic education in Plato`s thoughts. Firstly, gymnastic education in Plato`s thoughts helps the individuals achieve well-being and virtues, such as courage, wisdom, moderation and justice. Secondly, it leads the individuals to learn how to discourse about the political things, and to participate in organizations and operations of the body politic, such as the assembly. In so doing, the individuals become the citizen. Lastly, it turns the individuals to warriors so that they can defense and guarantee their state security on their own.
