Objectives: Bupleurum falcatum L Ethanol Extract (BEE) is a species of flowering plant and has been widely used in eastern asia to treat various diseases. The anti-cancer-related molecular mechanisms by BEE are not yet well understood. We investigated and identified that BEE is a powerful anti-cancer therapeutic strategy in SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cell line.
Methods: The effects of the BEE on cell viability and cell cytotoxicity were performed using WST-1 and LDH assay. Western blotting analyses were performed to identify caspase-3 cleavage level in SKOV-3 cell lines. Z-VAD-FMK in combiantion with Bupleurum falcatum L were investigated to evaluate caspase-3-dependent anti-cancer effect in SKOV-3 cell lines.
Results: BEE exerts the reduction of cell viatbility and the increase of cell cytotoxicity via the caspase-3 cleavage in SKOV-3 cell lines dose- and time-dependently.
Conclusion: BEE mediated the apoptosis in SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cell lines. BEE may expect as a potential candidate for on the treatment for ovarian cancer patients.
