The current study aimed to examine the moderated mediating effect of mindfulness through emotional clarity on the relationship between ruminative thought and negative affect. A total of 328 of high school students in Gangwon-do area responded to the questionnaires on ruminative thought, emotional clarity, mindfulness and negative affect. In 18 of 328 date, missing date occurred, so missing date were substituted through missing date analysis and used for data analysis.
328 data(men=109, women=219) were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and PROCESS Macro. A moderated mediation is an integrated model that combines mediation moderation effect therefore we tested the mediation effect, moderation effect and moderated mediation effect.
The results of this study were as follows. First, the mediation effect of emotional clarity on the relation of ruminative thought and negative affect was verified. Second, mindfulness moderated the relationship between ruminative thought, emotional clarity Lastly, the moderated mediation effect of mindfulness on the relationship between ruminative thought and negative affect through emotional clarity was statistically significant.
This study further expanded the understanding of the elementary and a middle school students' negative affect related to emotional abuse and neglect by examining the antecedents of school maladjustment. Based on these results, the significance of this study, implications for the application of counseling scenes in schools, and suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.
