탈냉전기 중미간 ‘협조체제’의 출현? = 9.19 공동성명 후 북핵문제에 대한 중미간 협력

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Why have China-U.S. relations proceeded favorably since the late 1990's despite abundant gloomy prospects over their future relations right after the end of the Cold War? This article attempts to answer this question and analyze, as a case, the particular process of their cooperation over North Korea's nuclear problems. To meet this, this article pays its theoretical attentions to the concept of 'balance of interest' made by neoclassical realist theories. According to this, states do not respond mechanically to distribution of power as the balance of power theory predict. Rather, states' behavior are generally affected by their preferences and intentions. The currently emerging Sino-US Concert system, if any, can be explained by this perspective. That is, the two sides are now likely to take advantage of each other's strategic importance for their own interests; while U.S. seeks to decrease its overtaxed burden as a hegemonic power by passing the buck to China, China is also not reluctant to comply with such U.S. demands for its stable economic development.
