      Many naturalistic ancient landscape paintings need to be re-appraised by way of topology. In China, there are many ancient topographical materials in local chronicles. They could be divided into two categories: the one is about natural world, including hill history and hydrological history, etc.: the other is about man-made world, including temple history, bridge history, mill history and the history of other ancient buildings. The topographical materials in local chronicles and the typical features, especially the architectural ones, in naturalistic landscape paintings may tell us when the paintings were created, even who were the authors.
