탈가정 십대의 이동과 주거 공간의 선택 및 적응 = A selection and adjustment of residence and mobility the teenagers outside/beyond the home

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to explore the residential environment of the teenagers being ‘outside/beyond the home’ and their residential movements or transitions, and to examine their negotiations and strategies while seeking for the residence. The total 16 consisting of 9 females and 7 males participated in the experiment. Data was collected by doing one-year participant observation in Guem-dong of South Korea, which was well known to teenagers who needed the instant shelter and twice or three times directly interviewed participants. Findings are as follows. Teenagers leaving parental home overcame challenges through several survival strategies and co-residing with other teenagers. Also, they took advantage of public organizations in this process. These experiences gave them chances to expand their personal network and to seek the better way to live with other teenagers. But their strained and dynamic movement did not allow them to have the alternatives to different lives from current lives as well as various space-strategies. Taken together, I can no longer claim to solve the problems of these teenagers today as a social service system. In other words, I understood ‘outside/beyond the home’ behavior of these teenagers as a social act for the ‘self-reliance and survival.’ A wide range of approaches to teenagers searching for the safe shelter are necessary to be explored in the future study.
