Yulgok(1536~1584) who fundamentally inherited Confucianism that developed Korean traditional thoughts and Chu Hsi’s Neo-Confucianism, had a great impact on the development of Korean thought of education. He was an unique thinker of education. He emphasized the general education that makes him one of the world best education thinkers. At the time of Yulgok, the high-Joseon experienced the clash of education and total crisis in political system. That is why he recommended the political reform in the government. Among many reform measures, he focused on the educational reform especially in the education of youths because they were the future of the nation. This is why Yulgok tried to enlighten the people that the education of youths were the mission of the time. For this reason, he published Gyeokmongyogyeol. This book consists of the elements of personality education. This book deals with the missions of education of the time that even desperately needed today. The aims of this study is to provide the ways of the filial piety based on the contents of the Gyeokmongyogyeol and to apply to the contemporary education. Doing so, this study contributes to set up the thought of personality education and value of humanity for the contemporary education that experiences the confusion and suffering from the lack of true value. The main values and moral values are grace of parents, obey, serving for parents, living with parents, feeding parents, respect the parents, sincerity, and so on. Among them, this study emphasizes the values of the warmness of human mind and altruism that would overcome the selfishness.
