사회계층이 행복에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구: 객관적 계층과 주관적 계층의식을 중심으로 = A Study of the Effect of Social Status on Happiness: A Focus on Objective and Subjective Social Status

국문 초록 (Abstract)

Easterlin의 역설이 촉발한 ‘소득이 행복에 미치는 영향’에 대한 연구에 있어서 두 가지 측면에 대한 보완적 관심이 필요하다. 인간의 사회적 지위경쟁 욕구를 고려하여 사회계층의 효과에 대한 연구의 필요성과 객관적 지표의 한계를 보완할 주관적 인식 및 지표에 관한 연구의 필요성이다. 이에 대응하여 본 연구는 사회계층이 행복에 미치는 영향을 분석하되, 사회계층을 객관적 계층과 주관적 계층의식으로 나누어 분석하였다. 분석결과 객관적 계층과 주관적 계층의식 모두 행복에 정(+)의 영향을 미치지만, 주관적 계층의식의 상대적 영향력이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 양 계층변수의 하위요소별로 세분한 분석에서는 객관적 조건과 주관적 인식 간의 ‘격차’가 행복의 주요 영향요인이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 본 결과는 객관적 계층 외에 주관적 계층의식과 양자 간 괴리가 중요요인임을 확인해주는 것이라는 데서 주목된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There is a need for complementary attention to two aspects of the study of ‘the impact of income on happiness sparked by the Easterlin's paradox. It is the need to study the effects of social status considering the human desire and competition for social position and the need for research on subjective perceptions and indicators to complement the limits of objective indicators. In response, this study analyzes the impact of social status on happiness, dividing social status into an objective condition and a subjective perception. The results showed that both objective and subjective social status had a positive effect on happiness, but the influence of perceived status on happiness was relatively more significant. A specific analysis of the sub-elements of the two aspects of social status identified that the 'gap' between objective and subjective status can be a major factor in happiness. This study is noteworthy in that the results identified that subjective social status and the gap between objective and subjective status could be important factors in happiness.
