The purpose of this study was to comprehensively examine factors influencing secondary school students' participation in physical activity within the context of individual schools. In-depth interviews and focus group interviews were conducted with teachers and students, and the collected data were analyzed using inductive categorical analysis. The findings revealed three key results. First, micro-level factors such as teachers' instructional design competence and enthusiasm significantly influenced students' participation in physical activity. Second, school facilities, equipment, and school regulations were identified as important meso-level factors within the school context. Third, macro-level factors, including peer culture and an academic achievement-oriented culture, affected students' levels of physical activity participation. The discussion examined the interactive relationships among these factors and highlighted the buffering role of the school in facilitating or constraining students' physical activity participation.
