교과서 제도와 교육과정의 이상 = The Textbook System and the Ideal of Curriculum

Considering that the textbook is a way of realizing the ideal of curriculum, we take it as granted that educators write or publish textbooks with their whole hearts. In viewpoint of realizing the ideal of curriculum, however, it is more important to eradicate the teacher`s adherence to any textbook itself than to publish the most qualified textbooks. Therefore, it becomes significant that the textbook system needs to be reformed from the closed system into the open system. However, we must be careful that we should not adhere to any system reformation about the textbook publishment with the reason of realizing the ideal of curriculum. If the right education is accomplished through good instruction, it is more important to be concerned about enhancing the quality of teacher than about reforming the textbook system itself. The level of teacher should be `in principle` the highest in the subject area which the teacher belongs to. This paper emphasizes the quality of the teacher`s appreciative eye. This emphasis is not based on the general belief that the classroom teacher should have a rich knowledge base, but on the insight that the nature of subject content should be defined in the right way.
