    In light of the marked impairments individuals with Asperger Syndrome (AS) experience in understanding reciprocal social interactions and their failure to pick up social cues, interventions are necessary to improve their social functioning. While anecdotal reports have identified specific interventions as effective (Myles & Simpson 2003), few empirical investigations have been conducted that address social interventions for individuals with AS. The purposes of this literature review were to (a) review and synthesize existing studies on social interventions for individuals with AS and (b) explore and summarize existing social interventions that are available for this population. Based on the findings of the literature review, this article provides guidelines for future research on social interventions for individuals with AS.
