동양관상학을 적용한 20대 한국 여성 캐릭터의 성격별 얼굴 형태의 유형화에 관한 연구 = (A) study on facial model of Korean female character applied with the oriental physiognomy

국문 초록 (Abstract)

우리나라에서 제작된 애니메이션이나 게임 속의 여성 캐릭터는 외국의 것을 모방하거나 그 유형을 따라 하는 등의 문제로 모습이 대부분 비슷하게 만들어지고 있다. 2002년 10월에 실시한 설문 조사 결과 애니메이션에 등장하는 한국과 일본의 여성 캐릭터의 모습은 차별성이 적고, 일반적으로 눈이 크고, 코가 오뚝하며, 얼굴은 계란형이고, 눈이나 입은 지나치게 과장되게 표현되어 캐릭터에 대한 호감이 적다는 사실을 발견하게 되었다.
우리의 여성 캐릭터의 모습이 외국의 캐릭터를 무분별하게 모방하면서 점점 더 자신의 정체성을 잃어 가고 있는 이 시점에서 한국인의 모습을 한 여성 캐릭터는 어떤 모습인지를 과학적으로 연구하여 우리 자신의 특징을 살린 한국인 여성 캐릭터를 개발하는 것은 아주 시급한 일이다.
본 논문에서는 한국 20대 여성의 얼굴 특징을 관념적, 생물학적 관점에서 조사한 후 이를 토대로 한국인 여성 캐릭터의 성격에 따른 얼굴의 특징을 동양 관상학을 적용하여 제작하고, 이에 대한 객관적인 검증을 거쳐 한국 여성 캐릭터의 표준 근거를 제시해 보고자 하였다.
연구 결과 우리나라 사람들은 관념적 관점에서 본 얼굴 형태소의 특징을 바탕으로 제작한 여성 캐릭터와 귀엽고 착한 성격, 착하고 조용한 성격의 여성 캐릭터에 대해서는 "한국인답다" 라고 느끼며 호감형으로 생각하였다. 반면 생물학적 관점에서 본 얼굴 형태소의 특징을 바탕으로 제작한 여성 캐릭터와 신경질 적이거나, 불만이 많은 성격의 여성 캐릭터에 대해서는 "한국인답지 않다"고 느끼고 비호감형으로 생각하는 것으로 조사되었다. 이는 신경질적이거나, 불만이 많은 성격의 캐릭터에 나타난 얼굴 특징 가운데, 얼굴형이나 눈과 코 등이 너무 작거나, 크거나, 뾰족하거나 하는 등 표현이 과장되었다는 점을 보았을 때, 특징이 강한 얼굴과 과장된 표현, 그리고 비호감형에 대해서는 한국인과 거리가 멀다고 느끼는 것을 알 수 있었다.
본 논문에서 정리한 애니메이션에서 자주 등장하는 7가지 성격별 한국인 여성 캐릭터와 그에 따른 해당 성격과의 상관관계에 대한 반응에서는 75%의 일치율을 보였는데, 이는 한국인 여성 캐릭터의 성격에 따른 얼굴 형태소 특징을 동양관상학을 바탕으로 접근한 것이 효과적일 수 있다는 결론이다.
본 연구에서 제작한 캐릭터는 실제의 얼굴을 바탕으로 하고 있지만, 성격별 얼굴의 각 부분별 특징을 캐릭터 제작에 적용한다면 보다 다양한 한국인 여성 캐릭터를 제작할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The female characters in Korean animation movies and game titles look like each other because most of them are imitations of foreign characters. It was found from the survey in Dec. 2002 that Korean and Japanese female characters rarely have distinctions. Generally, they have big eyes, a high nose, an oval face, and their eyes and mouths are so much exaggerated that it is hard to get a good impression.
It seems like identity of Korean female characters is disappearing by discreet imitation of Western characters. At this point of time, developing the characteristics of Korean female characters through the scientific study is a pressing question.
This study intends to present standards of Korean female character through objective verification. The results from the examination of distinctive feature of Korean 20's women's face from the ideal and biological viewpoints, can be applied to oriental physiognomy and created various face model of Korean female
According to results of this study, it turns out that for the face model created based on an ideal viewpoint, good-natured, cute, silent character, people had a good impression and agreed that the character looks like Korean but the ones that created in a biological viewpoint and nervous, discontented character, people showed the a disagreeable impression and disagreed that they looks like Korean.
The nervous and discontented character has been overdrawn Such as too small, big o r sharp face, eye and nose. It can be noticed that most of people feel strong disagreement on the exaggerated character of Korean feature.
According to the survey, people accurately guessed that the personality of 7 female characters which appear frequently in this study 75% accuracy, this means oriental physiognomy is an effective method to create an acceptable Korean character.
The characters in this study are based on real face but we can create various animation characters if we apply partial feature of distinctive personal face to produce animations.
