구성주의에서 의미의 의미 = The Meaning of Meaning in the Constructivism

It is generally known that paradigms for research on teaching have been shifted from positivism to interpretivism and to critical theory. In terms of teaching-learning theory, consturctivism is based on interpretivism, whereas behaviorism is based on positivism. Constructivism has been highlighted especially, as the society transmits to information society. While research based on positivism attempts to find laws or lawlike generalizations as the form of professional knowledge, interpretivism emphasizes the meaning in the context of social phenomenon. The purpose of this research is as follows: To determine the ‘meaning’ of interpretivism, to compare interpretivist research methodology to that of positivism, and to investigate factors that affect the understanding and the creation of meaning. The result of this research showed: First, ‘meaning’ is the result of human’s interpretation about social world, and what we want to identify through researches are to ① understand the process of subjective reality construction, ② understand the process of intersubjective reality construction, and ③ break the reality of reification and pursue the liberalization of human thinking. Second, difference between positivism and interpretivism is contrasted based on four different criteria: universality vs. particularity, externalism vs. internalism, analytic approach vs. holistic approach and value-free vs. value-bound. Third, factors that affect understanding and creation of meaning are self images, Heidegger’s forestructures of understanding and Gadamar’s prejudice, motives, situational contexts and cultural contexts.
