한국 근대신문ㆍ잡지의 발달 시기에 선교사들의 언론활동에 관한 연구

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

We need to examine the publishing mission of missionaries at the beginning of Protestant's mission in Korea. It is helpful to do this to gain an understanding of the relationship between the development of the Korean press and missionary publishing mission in Korea. When missionaries conducted publishing mission in Korea, the modern periodical publications first made appearance in Korea.
Missionaries indirectly conducted evangelical mission for Koreans through the publishing mission, and managed their printing press as well. The missionaries published ordinary publications as well as missionary publications. In particular, they published Korean publications through their printing press (i.e. the Trilingual Press, the English Church Mission Press), which had Korean type.
In the situation, the Korean elite was deeply interested in western modernisation (i.e. westernisation) to promote the modernisation of Korea. The Korean elite was interested in western publications out of curiosity, and then themselves published periodical publications. Finally, the activities of Christian printing presses and the periodical publications of missionaries seemed to lead to the publication of Korean people's periodical publications as well.
