미국 대학의 이러닝 수업설계 사례를 중심으로 살펴본 교수설계자의 역할 탐구 = Analysis of Instructional Designers` Competencies in developing e-Learning Courses: Three Cases

To further understand the roles and tasks of instructional designers in designing, developing, and delivering e-learning courses, this study analyzed three different e-learning course development cases from Centers for Teaching & Learning in the U.S.. Three experienced instructional designers representing three different 4-year universities were selected for in-depth interviews. On the surface, the e-learning course development processes that each participant used looked more alike than different, entailing major steps such as meeting with faculty, developing content, monitoring courses in progress, and debriefing the instructor and students. The underlying principles and professional roles expected for each participant, however, were different to accommodate the unique contextual factors in each case. The study result indicates that instructional designers provide customized services to accommodate instructor`s instructional needs and facilitate increased interaction between instructor-student and among students. Such roles and tasks of instructional designers reflect different expectations and circumstantial standards of universities in the U.S. as compared to those of Korean universities.
