Translated Chosun: Literature of Chosun Translated in Chosunshiron Published by the Japanese in Korea during the colonial period
Oyama Tokio who was in Korea during the colonial period published Chosunshiron in 1926, which was published for 2 years. The characteristic of this magazine is that the issues and literature of contemporary Korea were introduced mainly in translated Japanese, except some Esperanto translations. In particular, novels revealing the colonial reality in the 1920s were translated into Japanese.
Of these, the novel Hunger and Slaughter is printed with the interpreter elucidated. He is Im, Nam-san, who is supposed to be Korean. His translation shows many remakings covering a wide range. Although he is a Korean, his remakings represent images of Chosun on the imperial Japanese prospect. From his translation, we can see the relation of dynamics intervened in the translation into imperial language.
In the colonial space full of desire, an appearance that control the culture of their own and identify toward that of empire is present. Translation is not transparent, much less that into imperial language. The translation showed in Im, Nam-san's text represent the mechanism of translation conducted between empire and its colony.
