성인진입기 청년의 약물 사용 및 회복 경험 = Experiences of Drug Use and Recovery among Emerging Adults

국문 초록 (Abstract)

성인진입기는 청소년기에서 성인기로 전환되는 과도기의 특성상 약물 사용의 위험성이 높다. 본 연구는 성인진입기 청년의 약물 사용과 회복 경험을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이에 약물 사용 경험이 있는 성인진입기 청년 7명을 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 실시하였고, 주제 분석을 통해 7개의 대주제와 26개의 하위 주제를 도출하였다. 연구 참여자들은 아동청소년기 부정적 생애경험, 일탈 행위, 또래 집단의 영향으로 약물 사용을 시작하였고, 약물에 대한 의존이 심화되면서 일상 및 사회생활이 어려워졌으며 정서 및 관계적 고통을 경험하였다. 이후 약물 사용의 부정적 결과와 회복의 필요성을 인식하였고 빈번한 재발과 좌절을 경험하면서도 회복을 이어나갔다. 본 연구결과는 성인진입기 청년들이 약물 사용에서 회복되는 것을 도모하는 발달단계에 적합하고 접근성 높은 개입의 필요성을 강조하였다.

The risk of drug use is heightened during emerging adulthood, a developmental stage characterized by the transition from adolescence to adulthood. This study aimed to explore the experiences of drug use and recovery among emerging adults. In-depth interviews were conducted with seven emerging adults who had prior experience with drug use. Seven overarching themes and 26 subthemes were derived through thematic analysis. Participants initiated drug uses due to adverse childhood experiences, delinquent behaviors, and peer groups’ influence. As drug dependence intensified, participants experienced increasing difficulties in daily functioning and social relationships, accompanied by heightened emotional and interpersonal distress. Following recognition of the adverse consequences of drug use and the need for recovery, participants engaged in the recovery process while experiencing recurrent relapses and associated frustration. These findings underscore the need for accessible and developmentally appropriate interventions that facilitate recovery from drug use among emerging adults.
