The physical properties of the system MgCr₂O₄-CaO were studied after sintering at 750℃ and 1200℃, respectively, in air for 7 hours. The behavior of varporization for the specimens sintered at 750℃ was studied in H₂ atomosphere. The mechanism of CaCrO₄formation by addition of Cao to MgCr₂O₄ was found to be first order chemical reaction. As CaO contents were increased, the specimens sintered at 750 ℃ expanded by oxidation but the specimens sintered at 1200℃ contracted by formation of eutectic liquid. The vaporization under H₂atomosphere was nearly completed in 1 hour, and as CaO contents were increased, the vaporization rate was also increased.
