The review of Chinese academic research on Korean intangible cultural heritage offers valuable academic and practical insights. Analyzing 148 papers published by Chinese scholars from 2001 to 2024 using bibliometric and content analysis methods, the study reached the following conclusions.
First, the research interest in Korean intangible cultural heritage shows some correlation with UNESCO inscriptions, but it is not directly proportional. This is influenced by factors such as policy, cultural exchange, UNESCO status, research topic limitations, and the recognition of Korean intangible cultural heritage.
Second, most studies focused on well-known heritage items, with less research on lesser-known items. Topics included introducing Korean intangible cultural heritage, Korea-China comparisons, protection systems, and cultural conflicts.
Third, collaborative research between Chinese and Korean scholars was limited, and the lack of empirical data and fieldwork further restricted the research.
Lastly, media coverage significantly influenced public perceptions and research directions. Increased international promotion and research support are needed for underexplored intangible cultural heritage items.
