1960년대 소설의 小市民的 性格 고찰 = A Study of Petit Bourgeois Consciousnessin 1960's Korean Novels

국문 초록 (Abstract)

韓國의 都市化는 짧은 기간에 폭력적일 정도로 급격하게 진행되었다. 그 문화적 현상을 반영한 것이 1960년대 후반의 ‘小市民 論爭’이다. 1960년대 일부 소설은 ‘小市民 意識’과 ‘시민의식’의 對決樣相을 보여준다. 1960년대에 활동했던 평론가들은 世代論과 연결해 ‘小市民 意識’을 제기하면서, ‘小市民 意識’과 ‘小市民 근성’을 구분했다. 필자는 도시 생활자의 時空間意識에 비추어 소시민 의식을 파악했다. 특히 都市 生活者가 시골이라는 공간과 만났을 때 어떤 방식으로 도시 감각이 발현되는가를 추적했다. 金承鈺의 霧津紀行에는 ‘권력의 시선과 현실 긍정의 조작적 성격’이 드러나 있고, 徐廷仁의 江은 분절적 서사와 좌절한 자의 自己憐憫 등이 드러나고 있다. 이는 1960년대 소설이 상황 순응의 논리와 연결된 小市民 意識을 내장하고 있음을 보여준다. 그 이면에는 1960년 419혁명의 좌절과 압축적 근대로 인한 고뇌가 도사리고 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Urbanization of South Korea had been progressed in a short period. So-called ‘the petit bourgeois controversy’ in the late 1960’s was the result from such cultural condition. Some novels in the 1960’s deals with the controversial situation between the petit bourgeois consciousness and the democratic citizenship. Suggesting the petit bourgeois consciousness and the discourse of generation, some literary critics in the 1960’s tried to evaluate the concept of petit bourgeois by dividing the positive petit bourgeois consciousness from the negative petit bourgeois temper.
Projecting the petit bourgeois consciousness into citizens' sense of time and space, this study focused how the urban sense appears when it meets rural area. As for the literary texts of such petit bourgeois consciousness, this study analyzed Kimk, Sung-ok's Muchin Gihang and Soh, Jong-in's Gang. In Muchin Gihang, Kim, Sung-ok represented the gaze of political powers and the fabricated nature of citizens' affirmation of authoritarian reality. Soh, Jong-in's fragmentary narrative Gang proposed the cynicism and self-pity of depressed men. These works showed us that the novels in the 1960’s internalized the petit bourgeois consciousness which was linked to the logic of passive adaptation. Beyond all this, there lied the great anxiety resulted from both the failure of the April 19th Revolution in 1960 and the rapidly compressed modernization of South Korea.
