중년 여성들의 오디션 출신 스타에 대한 팬덤 연구 = 팬심의 구별짓기를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 나이와 성별, 국경의 제약을 허물고 있는 대중문화 팬덤 현상은 ‘이모팬’으로 불리는 중년 여성들의 팬 활동에서 두드러진다. 본 연구는 새로운 문화 주체 세력으로 부상한 중년 여성 팬들이 오디션 출신 스타를 대상으로 한 자신들의 팬덤 활동을 어떠한 방식으로 구별짓고 다양한 실천 양식을 구현하고 있으며, 그로 인한 변화상은 무엇인지를 사회적 맥락과 연결해 비판적으로 탐색해 보았다. 온라인 팬덤의 참여 관찰, 심층 인터뷰, 게시판 분석 등의 질적 방법을 통해 분석한 결과, 중년 여성팬들은 나이와 성별을 의식해 자신들의 팬덤을 ‘스타 뒷바라지’로 차별화하면서 정신적, 물질적 서포터 역할에 주력하고 있었다. 이러한 서포트는 자신들이 선택한 오디션 출연자를 스타로 키워 내기 위한 목적을 실현하기 위한 것으로 시간과 경제력 활용, 친화감 조성, 선물 주고받기 등의 전략으로 나이 어린 팬들과는 차별화된 그들만의 서포트를 의식적으로 행하고 있었다. 여기에는 팬 활동의 인정받기, 문화 권력의 유지, 성애적 욕망 등이 감춰져 있었고 가정생활과 가족 관계가 새롭게 재편되는 양상이 나타나고 있었다. 하지만 중년 여성들의 팬덤 활동에는 그들의 생산적 문화실천을 규제하는 사회구조적, 문화산업적 지배 논리가 작동하고 있음을 포착할 수 있었고 건강한 팬덤문화의 향유와 적극적인 문화실천의 필요성이 요청되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines how the middle-aged female fans of a reality competition TV star distinguish their fandom and fan activities from those of other fans and how their fandom affects their life style and family relationship. Using participant observation of their online fandom, content analysis of the bulletin board and in-depth interviews, this study describes that middle-aged female fans concentrate on their role as mental and material ‘supporters’ to differentiate themselves from young female fans. They implemented various strategies to make their chosen star to be a famous star by their supports, which are to spend their time and money, to form friendship and to exchange gifts with fans. Their fan activities cunningly concealed their hidden desires for recognition from the star and other fans, maintenance of culture power within online fan community and sexual desire for the star. Also their fandom brought the changes of their life style and family relationship. However, the fandom activities of these middle-aged women were influenced by the dominant logic of social structure and cultural industry, which regulates their cultural practices. These findings suggest the need for the enjoyment of fandom and positive cultural practices for them.
