The research verifies whether the completion of parent education program has an effect on parenting efficacy and parenting stress, and whether current status(either participating or not participating in the program) has an effect on parenting efficacy and parenting stress.
This research was based upon the survey on 411 parents who had children receiving primary/secondary education, and were participants of KACE(Korea Association for Community Education) parent education program in Seoul-Kyunggi area, including Guri, Incheon, Suwon, Sungnam, and Yongin. Parents currently enrolling the program were asked to fulfill a questionnaire during the program, while parents who had already completed the program and were having a hiatus were asked to fulfill a questionnaire via either visiting a program center, or an e-mail. The parenting efficacy and the parenting stress tests were used as testing methods and SPSS/WIN 12.0 was used to analyze statistical data.
The research outcomes of the parent education program efficacy can be briefed as follows.
First, there was no difference in parenting efficacy and parenting stress between groups who had taken a one-time special course and who had taken a regular curriculum.
Second, there was difference in parenting efficacy and parenting stress between groups who had continuously taken parent education programs and who had had hiatus after the program; parenting efficacy decreases six months after, and parenting stress increases a year after completion of the program.?
Third, correlation between parenting efficacy and parenting stress existed.
According to these outcomes, parent education program influences parenting efficacy and parenting stress, and continuous participation in the program generates positive effect. Also, the higher parenting efficacy through parent education, the lesser parenting stress.
