음악교육과 아동 지능 발달에 관한 문헌 연구 = Music Education and Children's Intellectual Development: A Literature Review

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘모차르트 효과’가 대중의 주목을 받던 1990년 초 이후 음악교육이 아동 발달에 주는 음악 외적 효과, 특히 지능 발달에 주는 긍정적인 영향은 많은 대중의 관심을 끌어왔다. 하지만 이에 관한 다양한 속설들이 과장, 왜곡되어 퍼져나가면서 음악교육의 목적과 가치에 대한 오해를 야기하게 되었다. 이에 본 연구는 음악교육이 주는 다양한 음악 외적 효과, 특히 지능 발달에 관해 2000년 이후 국제 학술지에 발표된 문헌들을 체계적으로 고찰하여 이에 관해 보고된 연구 결과들을 정리하고 학계의 연구 동향을 소개하고자 한다. 많은 연구자들이 음악교육을 통해 아동의 지능이 향상된 사례들을 발표하고 음악교육과 아동 지능 발달간의 긍정적인 상관관계를 밝혀왔지만, 각각의 연구 결과가 일관적이지 못하고 이를 반박하는 연구의 수도 적지 않아 여전히 많은 쟁점이 존재한다. 따라서 음악교육자들이 이러한 연구 결과를 받아들이고 적용함에 있어서 비판적 사고와 함께 세심한 주의가 요구되며, 특히 학부모와 학생들에게 음악교육의 음악 외적 효과에 대한 정보를 전달할 때 이러한 요소를 충분히 고려하여 보다 명확한 정보를 제시해야 할 것이다.
