지역신문 독자 연구 = 이용 동기, 열독 기사, 게재 희망 기사를 중심으로

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines local newspaper readers’ behaviors. Those include why they read local newspaper, what kind of articles they read, and what kind of articles they hope to read. Understanding them is a starting point to identify the substantial conditions for local newspapers to be read. To do this, the study conducts a survey of 1,330 readers in nine national districts excluding Seoul. It illuminates some discrepancies among the readers’ motivations to use, actual reading articles, and articles hoping to read. These findings seem to indicate that local newspaper readers are aware of the necessity of local newspapers and read their news and information but they do not prefer them. It requests local newspapers to deliberate their identities. On the one hand, they could strength local identity even though it does not meet the public needs. On the other hand, they could decide to establish themselves as popular newspaper sensitive to public needs of local readers. In the case of local newspapers, ensuring the identity does not always mean improving the competitiveness.
