答問類編󰡕을 통해 본 蘆沙學派의 心性論 고찰 = A study on Nosa school’s Theory of Mind reviewed through Dapmuryupyeon

국문 초록 (Abstract)

19세기 내우외환을 겪던 조선은 유교적 가치체계가 매우 흔들렸다. 당시 유학자들은 적지 않은 위기의식을 느끼며 국권을 강화하며 나라를 수호고자 하였다. 특히 그들은 이전 성리학의 논쟁을 반추하며 그 이론을 굳건하게 하면서 전통의 윤리적 가치를 지키려고 노력하였다.
본 논문은 노사(蘆沙) 기정진(奇正鎭: 1798∼1879)의 학문을 그 문인들이 체계적으로 정리한 󰡔답문류편(答問類編)󰡕에서 그 심성론을 고찰한 것이다. 기정진은 리(理)를 중심으로 자신의 학문적 이론을 체계화시킨 이후, 호남 장성을 중심으로 강학하면서 문인을 양성하였다. 기정진 사후, 그 문인들은 스승이 지인 및 문인들과 서찰로 문답한 학문적 내용을 체계적으로 분류하여 󰡔답문류편󰡕을 지었다. 이러한 편서 작업은 그 직전 문인을 비롯한 이후 후학들이 강학자료로 이용하여 기정진의 학문 경향을 올바르게 이해하고 계승하려는 것이었다.
성리학에서 심성론은 심(心)·성(性)·정(情)에 대한 이기론적 입장을 통해 인간 존재의 양상을 다룬 이론이다. 이에 글의 전개는 하늘이 명한 본성을 이분원융(理分圓融)의 측면에서 고찰한 다음, 그 마음에서 본성이 발현하여 감정으로 될 적에 유기적 관계인 심통성정론(心統性情論)과 감정의 영역인 사단칠정론(四端七情論)을 다루고, 끝으로 하늘에서 얻은 본심이 인심과 도심으로 되는 과정, 본심과 명덕의 일체적 관계성을 살펴보았다. 이러한 고찰은 인간의 현존 모습을 어떻게 주재할 것인가에 대한 수양론(修養論)을 이해하고, 나아가 기정진이 지향한 리 중심의 이기론도 살펴보는 데 도움을 줄 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Confucian scholars of the Joseon Dynasty in the 19th century suffering from the domestic social problems and foreign invasion firmed the Confucian traditional value and furthermore reviewed the controversies on Neo-Confucianism to set more values on the Li(理) centered on such controversies.
This thesis is to study on the theory of mind nature based on Dapmuryupyeon(答問類編) written by Ki Jeong-jin school’s scholars. Ki Jeong-jin(奇正鎭) systemized the theory of his learning based on Li. Since Ki Jeong-jin died, his disciples wrote Dapmuryupyeon systematically categorizing the contents of their teacher’s learning that were talked over between Ki Jeong-jin and literary men including his friends through letters. They did such categorization in order to righteously understand and succeed Ki Jeong-jin’s academic tendency based on such Ki Jeong-jin’s academic materials used as lecture materials by the literary men of his life period and his disciples.
In Neo-Confucianism, the theory of mind nature deals with the existence nature of human based on the viewpoint of the theory of Li and Ki on mind, nature and emotion. This thesis evolves in the ways of study: looking into the human nature determined by the heaven in the aspect of YiBunWonYung(理分圓融); reviewing the theory of SimTongSeongJeong(心統性情), the organic relation between human nature and emotion that is made when the human nature emerges from mind to become emotion, and the theory of SaDanChilJeong(四端七情), the area of emotion; finally, seeing the process how the human nature given by the heaven becomes the mind of human and the mind on truth, and the one-body relation between the original human mind and righteous virtue. Such ways of study will help understanding and looking into Ki Jeong-jin’s academic system.
