      Augustine discusses the image of God, knowledge and wisdom, and the recovery of the Trinity as the eternal image of God in Trinity 12-14. Because mankind was created according to the image of God, the form of Trinity was placed in a man’s mens, which is high part of reason. And this image of God in human beings was used to communicate with God at the time of creation. However, the form of Trinity inside of mankind has been tainted as people became corrupted with greater love for wealth than for God. As a result, human beings who is downgraded to the status of animal must go forward with knowledge of faith to wisdom which is God’s worship. Faith is mandatory for the knowledge to transfer to the wisdom. Given that the faith is the knowledge which belongs to time, we take ourselves into the wisdom with the faith in Christ through the knowledge of faith. Transfer from the knowledge to the wisdom becomes possible through the faith in the Christ’s person who has a union of divinity and humanity. When we go forth to God with the faith in Christ, the image of God is recovered in our mens that we become able to remember, understand, and love God. Though the image of God which is placed in place of high part of human reason became unable to communicate with God due to human beings’ corruption, it recovers its ability to remember, understand, and love God through the faith in redemption of Christ. This wisdom further grows as the wisdom to worship God. Accordingly, the eternal Trinity of God placed in the image of God gets recovered as the knowledge transfers into the wisdom through the faith. Augustine wanted people’s hearts to believe in and understand the Trinity of God by training their hearts in this way. Of course, visio Dei (seeing the actual God with our eyes) would be only possible after death.
