서울굿의 신화(神花) 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 꽃의 세계를 무속의례 중심으로 접근해 보고자 한 것이다. 무속에서 쓰여지는 가화(假花)로서의 지화(紙花)는 神의 꽃이라 하여 신화(神花)라 명명하고자한다. 신화는 단순히 만들어진 조화(造花)가 아니라 여러 가지 의미들을 함축하고 있다. 이러한 신화 연구를 통해 무속의례속에서 신화의 기능적인 역할과 의미를 이해하게 될 것이다. 신화는 무속의례속에서 주요한 매개체 역할을 함으로서 의례의 제차를 구분시켜주며, 나아가 무속에 내재된 사상을 이해할 수 있도록 돕는다.
신화는 종교적인 꽃이다. 즉 신앙의 꽃이며, 의식이나 의례를 위해 만들어지는 꽃이다. 종교적인 맥락에서 신화는 신이 하강하는 통로이며, 신이 가장 먼저 접하는 대상이다. 또한 무속의례속에서 신이 깃들어져 있다고 믿어지기도 한다. 신화는 신을 위해 봉양하는 꽃이며, 신을 請神, 奉神, 娛神, 送神하는 꽃이기도 하다. 신화에는 태평성대, 장수, 개인의 기복적인 의미까지도 함께 함축하고 있으며, 신성시된다.
신화의 소재들은 도교, 불교적인 요소들과 신화(神話)의 모티브를 인용하고 있다. 수팔연의 의미와 석가모니를 상징하는 연꽃이 주로 쓰인다는 점이 불교적인 영향일것이다. 수팔연은 개인적인 구복을 추구하는 면이 강하다고 할 수 있겠다. 이는 도교적인 의미와도 연관시킬 수 있겠다. 불로장생을 꿈꾸는 도교적인 모티브가 대부분을 차지하고 있다는 맥락에서, 신화는 인간들이 원하는 가장 기본적 욕구인 무병장수와 기복을 기원하는 신구(神具)이다. 이는 무속에 내재된 기복사상과도 연관지어서 해석할 수 있을 것이다.
무속의례속에서의 꽃은 크게 네 가지 의미를 지니고 있다. 첫째는 신격을 상징한다. 이는 백련화 혹은 천상화가 천신으로 상징되며, 신이 깃드는 대상이라는 점에서이다. 둘째는 기복적인 의미가 내포되어 있다. 즉 신화 자체에 기복, 장수, 태평성세 등의 소재가 포함되어 있다는 점에서 알 수 있겠다. 셋째는 무속적인 이상세계인 좋은 곳(극락)을 상징한다. 즉 꽃 자체가 극락 혹은 이상세계로 상징되기도 한다. 마지막으로는 재생의 의미를 지녀, 재생을 가능케 해 주는 대상으로 인식되기도 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper attempts to deal with the shamanistic god-flowers concerning shamanistic ritual from Seoul area. The paper-flowers(紙花, 지화) as pseudo ones in shamanistic ritual will be designated to the god flowers(神花, 신화) because they are for gods in shamanism. Such god flowers contain various meanings beyond their simplified meaning as hand-made artcraft. Through this paper, probably it will be understood their function, form and meaning in rituals. Also it gives an opportunity to investigate ideas represented in shamanism and make the distinction between sessions in a certain ritual.
The shamanistic god-flowers are also religious ones. They are made to be used for the religious purpose. In the religious context, they are the passage through which a god goes and he faces for the first time. It is believed that a god is represented in a ritual. The shamanistic god-flowers are the objects to evoke, soothe, and escort a god. In their type, the shamanistic god-flowers are similar with sang-hwa(床花, 상화) usually seen in court events or on the table for royal banquet. In these events, sang-hwa stands for the national peace, everlasting happiness, and longevity. On the other side, the shamanistic god-flowerers have more complicated meanings because they also mean a divine existence as well as personal auspiciousness. They are also differentiated from the former rituals because they are thought to be divine.
Some motives of the shamanistic god-flowers include themes from Taoism, Buddhism or mythology. It is supported by the following items, supary?n(수팔연), the most representative subject among the shamanistic god-flowers, and lotus, the symbol of Buddha. The former is closely related to personal happiness derived from Taoism. It would not be exaggerated to say that the shamanistic god-flowers are the objects for hopes and auspiciousness for that people are longing because their main subjects are Taoist motives such as namg?k noin(南極老人, 남극노인), butterflies and cranes.
The shamanistic god-flowerers make the distinction among k?ri or session in a shamanic ritual. The most representative thing is the white lotus used in pulsasang(불사상) or ches?k k?ri(제석거리). As opposed to other flowers made with multi-colored papers, this flower is made with white paper. It means ches?k(제석), the god of heaven, and plays a role to differentiate from other k?ri(거리) or session.
In a sharmanic ritual, the flowers are largely fallen into four kinds of meanings. Firstly they are the symbol of a god. They often are represented as white lotus or ch?nsanghwat (천상화), in which the god is immersed. Secondly, they contain the auspicious symbols such as aspiration, longevity and national piece. Thirdly, they are the symbol of the ideal world because the flowers themselves also mean such a ideal land. Finally, they are acknowledged as the meaning of incarnation, or the objects to make someone be incarnated.
