광주․전남지역 전문대학의 보건계열학과 강화추세에 대한 검토 = A Study on the Strengthening Trend of Health-Related Departments in Gwangju-Jeonnam Area

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Objectives : This study aimed to examine the strengthening trend of health-related education and the issues of major transfer among faculty members of junior colleges in Gwangju-Jeonnam area.
Methods : The national statistics on education from 1999 to 2009 were reclassified to analyze the admission quota for the students and faculty members. Transfer issues were obtained through the open-structured interview of the twelve faculty members who had completed the transfer process.
Results : During the period of 1999-2009, the student quota for the health-related departments increased by 26.8% in Gwangju-Jeonnam area, which doubled the nationwide increase of 13.1%. The proportion of health sectors in junior colleges has also increased from 10.4% in 1999 to 18.0% in 2009, while that of the whole country showed from 6.9% to 9.9%. Most common issues from the faculty members who completed the transfer of their majors were limitation of available time for the re-education, restriction of extramural academic activities and lack of profound knowledge toward the new discipline.
Conclusions : Our study may be used as a guideline to the restructuring and reallocation of faculties in junior colleges.
