This article explores the possible existence of a Chinese Christian Poetics, namely, Christian Poetry within education, through an illustration of Confucius’ Poetics in his The Analects. Poetry education presented Confucian’s central ideas of literature, which meant construction of personality through Poetry. Confucius’ Poetics in his The Analects was one of the most important resources of Poetry education, which was often misinterpreted in ancient Chinese history for political reasons. Firstly, this article elaborates and summaries Confucius’ Poetics in his The Analects which was expressed by his instructions and uses of Shi Jin, altogether 18 times. Shi Jin was popular diplomatic language during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty that was usually farfetched. Confucius adopted this cultural custom, which paved the way for later Confucian scholars’ moralization of Shi Jing in their tremendous notes and commentaries. As a result, the vivid experiences implied in poems were often neglected. This type of explanation does not necessarily apply to modern ethics as well as poetics. Both of them consent to authenticity, which was put forwarded by Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor as a core concept of modern ethics and has been awarded high appraisal for its accomplishments and great space for development. Another characteristic of Confucius’ teachings of Shi Jing is that he paid attention to the music of Shi Jing, because the whole Shi Jing was song lyrics and was often sung in different circumstances. There were famous paragraphs that showed he was fond of music. The main reasoning is music as "a temporal, pure realm of art", is an excellent metaphor and expression of situational and occasional Ren(仁). Secondly, we focus two pandects of his poetics in Chapter of Yang Ho and Wei Chang (according to James legge’s translation), which proposed seven functions and one nature of Shi Jing. We find these key definitions recognize the prolific interactive relationship between human and things described in poems, and affirm poetic functions of self-discovery and education. Lastly, relating conclusions above to the thoughts of Christianity, we think that there is a possibility to build a new ethical poetics to unite the two traditions of Confucianism and Christianity within the shared dimension of literary theories.
