茶山思想을 통한 새마을정신 再定立 = The re-establishment of Saemaul Spirit through Dasan' thought

Saemaul Undong began in the early 70's. Since them, it has advanced both in quality and quantity, in the improvement of environment and the increase of people's income. The people's volition for Saemaul Undong, however, has been decreasing gradually form years ago. This resulted form the insufficiency of the national spirit and people's dependence on the government.
This resulted from the fact that we couldn't cope with economic, social and cultural element properly which are changing suddenly. Moreover, there was not a certain root spiritual and philosophical aspect, the most basic in all the movements. So Saemaul Undong and Saemaul Spirit has to be based on the wonderful spirit in the historical consciousness in order to develop.
The saemaul Spirits of diligence, Self-help and cooperation have a connection with Silhak of Chosun Dynasty, which was the thought oriented to modern and national identity.
In partcular, Dasan, Jung Yahk-young's(1762-1836) philosophy had a firm root on this. Silhak thought. Therefor, he insisted that Korean Silhak of 'KyungSei'(Tinance and Government should provide leadership of use to the nation), "Ee Yong'(Profit should be used in the interest of life0 and 'Silsa'(Actual Situations should determined what needs should met) thoroughly should be established on the theoretic foundation of the 'Kyung Hak' thought.
And he indicated the harmonic development between material and spiritual wealth. We can tell that the Korean Silhak has a connection with Saemaul Undong by greatly emphasizing on the territory of practice in the Korean Silhak scholars's consciousness. So the Dasan's Silhak thought will help spiritual aspect of Saemaul Undong with its development and sublimation.
