This research examined the procedural processes of establishment of the name for Japanese Judo, which has been successful in globalization, initiated by Kano Jikoro who had proposed this name, as well as of the name for Taekwondo originated by Choi Hong-hee. Kano had clearly emphasized the concept "Do" (道, literally it means path or the way, but this word carries much more sophisticated philosophies) within the name of Judo. More importantly, because of failure to establish a solid philosophy of training as the national sport that represents Korea, this has resulted in confusions accordingly, and as the results from globalization of Taekwondo in this controversial situation, there are still many dim prospects which are intrinsic to Korean Taekwondo. Seeing it from this point of view, it is a time when the philosophy of discipline in Taekwondo is desperately required which will encompass Taekwondo circles in as much as their enmity and conflict toward each other will disappear. Now we are most in need of philosophy of discipline in Taekwondo which will be able to embrace high ideals having Korean atmosphere, and love for humanity as well rather than those Five Great Spirits, which divorced from the original meaning embedded in the name of Taekwondo. This is our important historical mission in order to get away from ridiculous ideas which might cause Taekwondo to be degraded as a meaningless sport.
