      This study aims to investigate the theoretical background and procedure of microteaching, and survey the elementary pre-service students` cognition and self-evaluation on microteaching. Microteaching is a kind of scaled-down simulated instruction in various ways-instructional time, content, class size, instructional techniques, number of students. It was introduced as a method of CBTE(competence-based teacher education). The procedure of microteaching is composed of instructional planning, instruction, feedback and evaluation, re-instruction. It is revealed that the elementary pre-service students` cognition and experience on microteaching is relatively low in relation to the need. They receive information on microteaching mainly via teacher employment institute in stead of pre-service education. They respond highly to subject matter instruction as the most needed area of schooling. As the results of self-evaluation, the students who experienced microteaching described highly positive attitude on microteaching. For the scientific teacher education, it is needed to reinforce the systematic guidance and practical experience on microteaching in the process of elementary pre-service education.
