Family solidarity, filial piety and depressive symptom among the Korean elderlies in Korea and in America were explored and compared in this paper. Data from a sample of 106 Korean elderly and Korean American in America, collected through questionaries, are analyzed using SPSSWIN 7.5 The result of this study reveals that the depressive symptom shows statistically significant difference among the Korean elderlies in Korea and in America. Family solidarity, filial piety, and depressive symptom showed statistically significant difference according to living condition, family situation, socal activity, education, religion, and number of children. Also the effect degree of the variables which affect depressive symptoms in Korea elderly are family solidarity and living condition. The Korean American elderly revealed big differences among sexes. From the results, economic stability and family solidarity with a special emphasis on formal service support in elderly are important for fewer depressive symptom.
