The purpose of this study was to empirically examine the relationships among types of leisure activities, stress coping behavior and social solving ability of university students. For accomplishing this purpose of the study, the 320 subjects were selected by the stratified cluster random sampling method from the eight universities located in Seoul area.
The survey questionnaires were used to collect data. The questionnaire for measuring social problem solving ability were developed by D'zurilla and Nezu(1966), and translated in Korean language by Kim(1992). And the questionnaire for stress coping behavior was 'The Ways of Coping Checklist(TWCC) developed by Folkman and Lazarus(1985) and standardized in Korean language by Kim and Lee(1985).
The statistical methods utilized in this study for analyzing the collected data were reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and standard multiple regression analysis and Amos 4.0 version statistical package.
From the analysis of this study, the following conclusions were obtained:
Firstly, the types of leisure activities participation partially influence on stress coping behavior of university students.
Secondly, the types of leisure activities participation partially influence on social problem solving ability of university students.
Thirdly, the stress coping behavior of leisure activities participation partially influence on social problem solving ability of university students.
Fourth, there exist causal relationships among types of leisure activities, stress coping behavior and social solving ability of university students. This causal model fits well with empirical data.
