유리 가마성형기법을 활용한 잔 디자인 연구 = A study on the design of a glass using glass kilnforming technique

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Recently, the propensity to consume is changing with the change of lifestyle. Interest in handcrafted products, which is practical and aesthetic, is rising in these days rather than purchasing mass produced products as those handcrafted products have become a rare and showed exquisite craftsmanship, which is sophisticated, unique, and touched by hands. I aim to make a shot glass, which has sophisticated handcrafted quality and modern design, that fits the current consumption trend. Also I went through the materiality of glass, glass-forming techniques, and design examples of shot glass with the times and east and west. The techniques I used for the glass design are glass-fusing to make bubbles between sheet glasses and glass-slumping to make the shape of a glass. These techniques are related to glass-kilnforming. In relation to the design example of glass, there are diverse glassware from modern lifestyle brands and handcrafted shot glasses made by artists, through the various platforms. Generally, handcrafted shot glasses are mostly transparency with vivid color expressed with their creativity. We need to explore a range of craft design utilizing the materiality of glass with modern design. Contemporary handcrafted items have become more accessible to the public, going through a variety of platforms, especially glass handmade products. I have made a series of shotglass made out of glass and hope more people can enjoy them in our daily lives knowing the value of handcraft.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

최근 라이프스타일의 변화로 소비성향이 변화하고 있다. 하나의 디자인으로 대량생산한 공산품들보다 실용성과 함께 소재가 지닌 특성을 살리고 심미성이 가미된 공예디자인 상품에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 본 연구자는 유리를 소재로 하여 트렌드에 맞게 수공예의 섬세함과 현대적 디자인이 가미된 술잔을 제작함에 목적이 있다. 본론에서는 유리에 대한 특성과 유리제작기법에 대한 이론적 배경 및 잔의 디자인 사례를 시대별, 동서양 등으로 다양하게 살펴보았다. 유리 제작기법은 유리가 가마 소성에서 자연스럽게 생기는 기포 현상을 술잔 디자인에 응용하기 위해 퓨징기법과 슬럼핑기법이 활용되었다. 잔의 디자인 사례는 소재별, 시대별, 동서양 및 라이프스타일 브랜드에서 출시되는 유리 식기와 다양한 플랫폼을 통해 대중들에게 선보이는 작가들의 수공예 유리 술잔 사례도 조사하였다. 전반적으로 유리의 투명성과 선명한 색감이 드러나고 수공예 유리디자인은 창작자의 독창적인 디자인이 표현되어 있다. 유리가 가진 특성을 현대적 감각에 맞게 재해석하여 소비 트렌드에 맞는 실용성과 심미성이 결합된 공예디자인 상품 연구가 필요하다. 대중들이 수공예의 가치를 알고 일상 속에서 쉽게 접하고 즐길 수 있는 기회가 되기를 기대한다.
