This study was designed to measure the change that occurred in the HPAA and HPGA hormone levels in women at the immediate conclusion of a marathon and to compare the results with those in women on the university female students at the conclusion of a strenuous modified short-marathon course. It conducted experiment with 8 female marathoners in the experimental group and 6 subjects of the same age in the comparison group, making marathoners complete a marathon course and comparison group complete a shortening course(10km), and the results of comparing and analyzing the measurements of variables of functions of HPAA and those of HPGA hormone observed by groups and times before and after experiment and after 24 hours of recovery were as follows; 1. Changes of ACTH, COR and HGH hormones in hormones in HPAA were as follows; First, ACTH, COR, and HGH hormones of two groups showed more increase immediately after experiment than before experiment and decrease in recovery period compared to immediately after experiment. There was significant difference in measurement period(post: pre & post 24 hours) of experimental group(p<0.05 & p<0.01). Second, change of ACTH showed significant difference in the between groups at post-experiment of measurement period(p<0.01). Third, in the HGH, there was a significant difference in interactions(p<0.01). 2. Changes of PRL, FSH, LH and E2 hormones in HPGA were as follows; First, PRL and LH showed more increase immediately after experiment than before experiment and decrease in recover period compared to immediately after experiment and vice versa in FSH and E2. There was significant difference in PRL of two groups and LH of experimental group among measurement period. Second, change of E2 showed significant difference in the between groups at post-experiment of measurement period (p<0.01). In summary, the present findings indicate that post-exercise HPAA and HPGA synthesis-secretion capacity is partially altered by long-term engagement in endurance training. Higher plasma ACTH, HGH and LH concentration in marathoners are due to modifications of hypothalamic-pituitary function. Further studies using intracellular level biochemistry are needed to evaluate relationship between distance running and endocrine function.
