가출청소년의 학업중단 영향 요인과 대책 = Runaway Youth's School Dropout: Determinants and Policy Implications

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 가출청소년의 학업중단에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인을 밝히고, 학업을 중단하지 않도록 하기 위한 대책을 논의하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 조사한 가출청소년 가운데 53.6%가 학업을 중단한 상태였다. 집단간 비교분석과 로지스틱 회귀분석을 통해 학업중단 예측변수를 관찰한 결과, 청소년의 성별, 교사와의 관계유지, 가출기간이 학업중단을 예측하는 유의미한 변수로 나타났다. 즉, 청소년이 남자이거나 가출기간이 길수록 학업중단의 가능성이 크고, 가출상태에서도 교사와 가까운 관계를 가질 때 학업중단의 가능성이 적었다. 연구결과가 시사하는 바는 가출청소년이 학업을 중단하지 않고 지속하도록 하기 위해서는 가출기간의 장기화를 막고, 가출 상태에서도 교사와 가까운 관계를 유지하도록 하는 것이다. 이를 위해서는 학교 내의 전문가의 집중적 개입과 보호시설의 가출청소년 학업유지 및 정규학교 복학 지원 노력이 병행되어야 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is to examine main factors that affect school dropout among runaway youth and to discuss policy implications to prevent their school dropout. Among this study participants from runaway shelters 53.6% were reported as dropouts. Multiple logistic regressions were performed to find out the determinants of school dropout.
The results showed that runaways who were male and stayed longer on the streets were more likely to drop out of school. On the contrary, runaways who had close relationships with teachers were much less likely to drop out. The results suggest policy implications to reduce the dropout rates of runaway youth. First, interventions of school welfare are needed to get runaway youth out of streets as early as possible. Second, teachers should be trained to give special attention to the students who have run away or are at risk of running away. In order to secure the right to education for runaway youth, schools as well as shelters should make efforts to reach out for them and should support their school re-entry and adjustment.
