The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the influence of maternal child-rearing attitude on children`s emotional intelligence and problem behavior. The subjects participating in this study were 114 five-year-olds of private kindergarten in G city and their mothers. The mothers were measured with their child-rearing attitude and children`s problem behavior. A children`s emotional intelligence was examined by teachers. The results of this study were as follows. First, in the relationship between maternal child-rearing attitude and children`s emotional intelligence, there was a positive correlation between positive attitude and recognition of others` emotion. However, there was a negative correlation between dependence encouraging attitude and whole emotional intelligence, an emotional control of self and others. As well as, a dependence encouraging attitude in maternal child-rearing attitude was a negative indicator of a children`s emotional intelligence. Second, in the relationship between maternal child-rearing attitude and children`s problem behavior, democratic attitude and externalized problem behavior, positive attitude and externalized/internalized problem behavior showed a negative correlation. However, controlling attitude and externalized/internalized behavior, dependence encouraging attitude and externalized/internalized behavior showed a positive correlation. As well as, a positive attitude in maternal child-rearing attitude was a negative indicator of externalized/internalized problem behavior. On the other hand, dependence encouraging attitude was a positive indicator of externalized/internalized attitude.
