The present study aims to identify the relationship between young children`s playfulness and daily stress according to their gender. The subjects of the present study were 161 children at the age of five and their eight teachers in charge, who were attending three kindergartens in J city. In order to measure children`s playfulness, a measuring tool was used, which was adapted by Yu Ae-Yeol (1994) from the Children`s Playfulness Scale (CPS), and a questionnaire was conducted to the teachers. In order to measure children`s daily stress Korean Preschool Daily Stress Scale (KPDSS) made by Yeom Hyeon-Gyeong (1998) was used, and the researchers conducted individual interview with the children. As results of the present study, first, boys significantly showed higher playfulness than girls. Second, boys significantly showed higher stress than girls in case of blaming and aggressive situation and hurting self-respect. Third, regarding relationship between playfulness and daily stress, it was shown that girls` playfulness had a negative correlation with blaming and aggressive situation, a subfactor of daily stress, and also subfactors of girls` playfulness, such as social voluntariness, cognitive voluntariness, and expression of pleasure, had a negative correlation with the factors of daily stress. These results indicate that boys have higher playfulness and daily stress than girls, and some factors of girls` playfulness have a negative correlation with daily stress. It thus suggests that observation of girls` playfulness can play a positive role reducing or getting ride of their daily stress.
