This survey was conducted to detect adult and microfilaria of Dirofilaria immitis of cats slaughtered in Daegu during the period from August to September in 1988. A total of 56 cats was used for this examination.
The results obtained were sumarized as fallows:
1. An adult of Dirofilaria immitis, morphologically identified as such, was detected from the right ventricle of a cat(1.6%) by autopsy. The cat was involved a mature male worm.
2. Microfilaria of Dirofilaria immitis were detected from three of 56 cats(5.4%) by performing blood test. In those cats, no adult worm was found in the right ventricle.
3. No other filarial species were detected from any cats examined. The microfilaria infection rate of Dirofilaria immitis was much lower in cats(5.4%) than in dogs(21%) in Chinju.
