제주도 숙박산업의 수익률을 결정하는 구조적 요인 = Five Forces Model on the Lodging Industry of Jeju Island and Its Profitability Determinants

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

What is the reason for the low profitability of Jeju Lodging Industry despite its rapid growth? The industry structure analysis shows the reasons to be its industrial and regional characteristic lowering the industry attractiveness. Because of Jeju’s specific industrial and regional factors, the threat of new entrants is big, the rivalry among existing competitors is high, and the bargaining power of buyers is big. As the threat of substitute and bargaining power of suppliers were low, they were found not to be the factors to the low profitability.
As shown, Jeju lodging industry structure and profitability are affected not only by its specific industrial factors, but also its specific regional factors. Apart from previous studies which only analyzed the industrial factors, this paper investigates both industrial and regional specific factors, showing how the industrial structure and profitability are also affected by regional factors. Since the industrial structure and profitability depends on the region, both industrial and regional characteristics must be incorporated when implementing government policies and corporate strategies.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

제주도 숙박산업은 고도성장에도 불구하고 수익률이 낮은 이유는 무엇인가? 제주도 숙박산업의 산업구조를 분석한 결과 산업적인 특성과 지역적인 특성으로 인해 숙박산업의 매력도가 낮아졌기 때문인 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 산업특유의 동인과 지역특유의 동인으로 인해 신규 진입자의 위협이 매우 크고, 기존 기업간의 경쟁이 매우 치열하며, 구매자의 교섭력이 크기 때문인 것으로 분석되었다. 반면 대체재의 위협과 공급자의 교섭력은 낮기 때문에 수익률 저조의 요인이 아닌 것으로 분석되었다.
이와 같이 제주도 숙박산업의 산업구조와 수익률은 산업특유의 동인뿐만 아니라 지역특유의 동인에 의해서 영향을 받고 있다. 산업특유의 동인을 제시한 기존 연구와 달리 본고에서는 산업과 지역특유의 동인을 함께 제시함으로써 산업구조와 수익률이 지역특성에 의해서도 영향을 받는 점을 규명하였다. 지역에 따라 산업구조와 수익률이 차이나기 때문에 특정산업의 경쟁력을 향상시키기 위해서는 산업특성 뿐만 아니라 지역특성에 적합하게 정부정책과 기업전략을 수립 및 수행하여야 할 것이다.
