Although globalization, which is now one of the most important ideas, started from the realm of economy, it also has many effects on the field of culture and art. Positive or negative views on globalization depend upon whether the idea could be applied universally or not. Is it possible to go beyond culture? Universal values asserted in the US or the West have something like ethnocentrism based upon their supposed cultural superiority. Wholly transcultural and universal value might lie not in reality but in ideal. There is one that is called diversity of species among the logics of localism. The logic is grounded on an attitude that you regard diverse cultures as human property. In this, the unique difference among cultures has to be respected and protected. As a another logic the cohesive power of culture is required. In this case, cultural identity is not only the proper substance of each culture but also its defensive wall If there is any persuasion in localism, it has to become both an alternative to globalization and an ideal for supplementing it. If globalization means universal mind required for each individual, localism can represent free mind for seeing its own value and securing its individuality. It is said that globalization in music has made us receive the Western music as a universal mode. But now we believe that there aren`t any universal sensibility in music. We have to look at the local and specific difference in language and music. Localism in music was not asserted until the strong logic of globalization appeared in music. There had been already music in the local all over the world, however, before localism appeared. If Asianism in music is to be possible, it has to hold both the ideal of universalism and that of localism within itself. The western music also is an local music if we no longer receive the value of the western music as the universal value in music. The fact that we have to obtain the individuality in music do not mean that the difference is a necessary and sufficient condition but that our culture should have our own music. For our music exists under the mutual effect of life and music. What kind of value does Asianism in music have? What is important is to restore the specific value of music and experience it in our life. The reason why we consider the Asianism in music comes from the reflection that our music has not played its own role so far. If Asianism in music embodies the universal value of music itself and at the same time it get along with the life of the region, then it will help each culture get its own musical style as a result.
