Total 55case of asthmatic bronchitis were studied during the period from July 1979 to June 1985 admitted at the department of pediatrics, National Medical Center. The results are as follows: 1) In 17 patients(41. 5%) the first wheezing attack was noted during the age of one or two years and 27 cases(49. 1%) were admitted during the age of three to five years. The sex ratio of male to female was 1. 3:l. 2) Seasonal incidence was highest in spring and autumn. 3) In 23 cases(41. 8%) they were admitted due to tbe first wheezing sttack 4) The duration of respiratory infection before admission was within one week in 27 cases (49 %) 5) In most cases(90. 9%) the duration of hospitalization was within one or two weeks. 6) Chief complaints were productive cough,dyspnea, fever and wheezy breathing in decreasing order. On admission throat was injected in 42 cases (76. 4%). In 27 cases(49. 1%) rales and wheezing were audible. In 22 patients(65. 5%) allergic history could be detected. Those were atopic dermatitis,allergic rhinitis, urticaria and allergic dermatitis, In 29 patients(70. 7%) family allergic history could be detected . Those were bronchial asthma, urticaria, atopic dermatitis, perennial rhinitis and allergic dermatitis. Leukocytosis was noted in 28 cases(50. 9%' erythrocyte sedimentation rate was elevated in 29 cases (52. 7%), total eosinophil count was incresaed in 25 cases (45. 5%) and percent eosinophil was increased in 23 cases (41. 8%). Serum IgE levels were above 97. 5 percentile in 25 cases (62. 5%). Chest X-ray findings were abnormal in 41 cases(74. 5%). Those were infiltration, bronchitis pattern, emphysema, increased vascular marking and peribronchial fibrosis. All the patients were treated with antibiotics and 34 cases(61. 8%) were combined with oral B2-stimulant. Oral antiallergic drug was added in 2 cases. In 21 cases (38. 2%) recurrences were noted and 4 patients(9. 8%) were progressed to bronchial asthma.
