철학적 예술세계론과 예술사회학 = 단토, 디키, 울프를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문의 목적은 분석철학자들인 단토와 디키의 예술세계론을 영국의 사회학자 울프의 사회학적 미학이론과 비교하는 것이다 단토와 디키의 예술세계론은 예술의 정의나 본질을 해명하기 위한 철학적 노력의 일환이다. 단토의 의미에서 예술세계는 하나의 사회적 제도라기보다는 가상적 세계이고 언술적 세계다. 이에 반해 디키는 예술의 정의나, 예술 작품의 식별을 예술 자체의 특질이나 본질로 정의하기보다는 예술세계라는 사회제도에 의해 규정되는 것으로 보았다는 점에서 단토보다 더 사회학적이다. 울프는 맑스주의적 시각에서 예술적 작업을 다른 자유로운 노동, 예컨대 과학이나 사상, 신앙이나 윤리, 철학과 구분할 필요가 없는 것으로 본다. 다만 미학적 가치는 정치적, 도덕적 가치로 환원될 수 없는 어떤 특수성을 가졌다는 점에서 다를 뿐이다. 이 예술의 특수성을 밝히는 것이 예술사회학의 주요 과제 가운데 하나인데, 그것은 미학적 경험의 사회적, 역사적 조건을 인정하고 탐구하는 사회학적 미학에 의해 가능하다고 주장한다. 후의 저작에서는 미학적 가치가 예술 공동체에서의 대화와 의사소통을 통해서 협상된다는 미학적 담론이론을 전개함으로써 단토와 본질적으로 유사한, 그러나 사회학적으로 한 걸음 더 나아간 이론을 제시한다. 즉 단토는 철학적 미학의 울타리 내에서 예술에 대한 사회학적 접근을 시도하고 있고, 울프는 사회학적 미학에서 예술의 철학적 문제를 해명하려는 것이다. 미학과 사회학의 만남은 역사적으로 필연적인 만남이다. 그 결과가 아직 분명한 것은 아니지만 오늘날처럼 일상생활의 미학화가 급속도로 진행된다면, 결국은 미학이 종말을 고하고 예술사회학이 그것을 대체하는 시대가 도래할 것이라는 예측도 가능하다고 생각한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of thes paper is to compare the theories of artworld by analytic philosophers, Danto and Dickie, with Wolffs sociological aesthetics Danto Dickers’s theories of artworld are philosophical attempts to address athe definition and nature of art An artworld in Danto’s sense is an imagined and discursive world, while Dicket defines it as a social institution On the other hand, wolff, from the Marxist perspective, treats artistic work same as other free labor such as science, thoughts, faith, ethics and philosophy Only difference between them is that aesthetic values have certain specific qualities that can not be reduced to political or moral values It is one of the major tasks for the sociology of art to specify these qualities unique to the aesthetic values, which, according to Wolff, is only possible by sociological aesthetics that recognizes and investigates social and historical conditions of aesthetic experience In her later work, Wolff proposes a theory of aesthetic discourse that aesthetic values are negotiated through dialogues and communications in an art community, which is similar to Danto’s theory, but sociologically advances one step further Danto tries to approach the art sociologically within the purview of philosophical aesthetics, while wolff attempts to address philosophical problems of the art whin the boundary of sociological aesthetics The meeting between aesthetics and sociology is historically inevitable It is too soon to speculate what the consequences of the encounter would be But it is at least possible to predict that aesthetics will eventually demise and the sociology of art will replace it if the present rapid phase of aestheticization of everyday life will continue.
